What is mini cycle?
People talk about tank mini cycle or beneficial bacterial cycle, what does that mean?
ok…the nitrogen cycle. do you know about it???

when you change the filter media, the gravel and/or the decorations in your tank you take out a lot of the beneficial bacteria because a lot of it is in the gravel and the decorations, most of it is in the filter media. there is a bacteria that turns ammonia into nitrite and the other bacteria that turns nitrite into nitrate. this causes a mini cycle because you lose a great ammount of bacteria so you’ll end up with some ammonia in your tank until there is new bacteria. therefore you’ll have to do water changes to make sure the ammonia doesn’t kill your fish.
ammonia and nitrite are toxic to your fish. nitrates are also toxic but only in huge ammounts. when doing your water testing you should always have ammonia-0, nitrites-0 and nitrates-10 to 20. this means you have a healthy tank and your fish are save from water toxins.
you do water changes once a week once your nitrogen cycle is completed so that you keep down the nitrates and to remove some of your fish’s poo and other wastes.
